What's happening in our classroom?

Literacy

This term students will be starting a new novel study. We will be reading the text 'The Wild Robot' by Peter Brown. This text will guide much of our literacy learning in Term 4 including, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and narrative writing. The book is about an intelligent robot is that is stranded on an uninhabited island after a shipwreck. To survive the harsh surroundings, she bonds with the native animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose. 

This term we will be learning about persuasive writing inspired by 'The Wild Robot'. Students will craft letters that include clear arguments, supporting details and persuasive language to express a point of view. 

Numeracy

Over the coming weeks students will be learning about Fractions. This will involve identifying equivalent fractions for halves, quarters and eighths. Students will show equivalent fractions using number lines, a bar model and shapes. They will practice locating fractions on a number line and any equivalent fractions. 

As part of our maths learning students will also be exploring mass in the coming weeks. This will involve students learning to measure in and explain the relationship between  grams and kilograms

    Inquiry - Changes to Earth's Surface

This Term in Inquiry, students will learn about the changes that occur to Earth's surface over time as a result of wind, water and human activity. They will make models to explore and simulate water and wind erosion. Students will become 'erosion detectives' as they look for evidence of erosion and consider possible causes. They will learn about where sand comes from and how to prevent coastal erosion by designing a solution using craft and natural materials. 

Through a deeper understanding of how Earth's surface changes over time students will better appreciate the beauty and complexity of our planet and the importance of protecting it.

Year 4 Camp - Mill Valley Ranch

What an amazing three days we had on camp last week! A huge thank you to the teachers and parents that made our camp possible. The students were all exhausted after such a fun filled time! Here are all the photos we took :-)
