Glenelg Division Year 11 & 12 Boys Football
The annual senior Glenelg Division boys football carnival took place at Hamilton's Pedrina Park on Monday, 5th May.
Whilst the weather temperature was perfect for football, it was the very strong northerly and sometimes swirling wind blowing down the ground that impacted the overall quality of football on the day. Because of a lack of umpires, games were shortened to 2 X 10 minute halves.
The Monivae team selected Riley Malseed as its captain and he did a meritorious job across the half back line and repelled quite a few opposition attacks. He was ably assisted by Hugo Hedley and Xavier White who were also competent defenders on the day.
Grady Bell and Jake Ewing combined well as our key forwards, and each took some well judged marks, despite the difficult flight path of the footy.
Will Bester (on ball), Gus Frost and Hayden Phillips (on ball) were instrumental across all games in driving the ball forward for our side and pushing back into defence when we were against the wind. In the strong blustery conditions, Hayden Phillips was still able to make most of his kicks count with fantastic foot skills.
Overall, we were runners up this year, having to hand on the shield to The Hamilton & Alexandra College who were declared the winners on percentage. It would have been fantastic to go "back to back" in this comp, but it wasn't to be!
I would like to thank the 3 Year 9 students who acted as my assistants on the day, so to Oscar Elliot, Heston Hedley and Jesse Riley, well done on your co-operation, enthusiasm and organization. Also to LSO, Shanna Bergmark, for her time-keeping, score-keeping and first aid duties, excellent stuff!!

House Cross Country
The House Cross Country event was held in week 2 this term at Lake Hamilton on the Parkrun track, to round off the major full school sporting events. It was great to see so many students ranging from avid runners looking to beat their personal bests to enthusiastic pavement pounding runners/walkers collect valuable points for their respective houses.
With clear skies and mild temperatures, there were many students who were very excited about their performance and beating their PB.

GD Cross Country
On Monday, 12th May, Monivae College participated in the Glenelg Division (GD) Cross Country event at Casterton Secondary College, with approximately 50 students representing the school. The challenging 3km and 5km courses wound through paddocks around the school, up and down hills, with the 5km course presenting an unexpected obstacle - kangaroos! Despite this, the weather was perfect, not too hot, and everyone gave their best effort. However, it was quite a surprise when we realised we had forgotten the gazebo top, leaving us without shade, but it didn't dampen our spirits. Monivae emerged victorious, winning the Girls Aggregate, Boys Aggregate, and Overall Champions.
Individual age champions included:
Well done to these individual winners and all others who placed and participated on the day, which concluded with a well-deserved stop for a bite to eat on the way home.

Croquet - James Wombwell
On Easter Monday, I travelled to Sydney to participate in the Fletcher Sharpe Invitational Golf Croquet tournament, a tournament to be held over 5 days at Cooks River Croquet Club, in Marrickville. The tournament is designed specifically for players of under 35 years of age, and was attended by 20 players from 4 countries; Australia, New Zealand, England and Egypt, including recently crowned Under 21 champion Levi Franks (NZ), and other world famous players, such as Aston Wade (UK), Moe Karem (Egypt) and the Fletcher brothers (Australia).
Despite only winning 2 games of 10 in the round robins, with some very tough competition, I was gifted with a stroke of good luck with 2 players pulling out of the plate playoffs, which are the bottom 6 players of the championship, meaning that I only had to play 1 game to win the plate. After a very hard-fought match with one of my fellow Australians, I came out on top. I was fortunate enough to win some money with my triumph in this game, a prize of $250.
I also gained an invaluable amount of experience from world level players, sure to assist me in my future endeavours.
