Round 1 Victory (30 April)

In windy conditions at Ballarat High School, our Monivae First XVIII kicked off their return to BAS football with a strong team performance, defeating BHS 12.12 (84) to 4.4 (28).

While there is still plenty of improvement to be made, the boys adapted well to the blustery conditions, showing composure with ball in hand and applying excellent pressure across four quarters.

Round 2 Recap (7 May)

In blustery conditions on Wednesday afternoon, Monivae took on Ballarat Grammar in what proved to be a tightly contested match for most of the day.

Despite controlling large patches of play, our First XVIII were unable to make the most of their opportunities on the scoreboard.  At three-quarter time, the game was on a knife’s edge with Grammar leading by just one point – 5.4 (34) to 4.9 (33).

Unfortunately, Ballarat Grammar finished the stronger side in the final term, pulling away to take the win:  Ballarat Grammar 9.8 (62) defeated Monivae 4.9 (33).

Plenty of learnings and positives to take into next week as the boys regroup and prepare for Round 3.

Round 3 Recap (14 May)

It was a tough day at the office for our Monivae First XVIII, going down to a strong Ballarat & Clarendon College side:  Clarendon 14.13 (97) def Monivae 2.7 (19).

With a significant list of unavailabilities, we travelled in undermanned and undersized, but the boys competed hard all day and never dropped their heads.  While we lacked our usual firepower, the effort and attitude remained first class in challenging conditions.

Plenty of growth to come from this group as we reset for the second half of the BAS season.
