Ready? Set. Jazz!
The Monivae Performing Arts Department had the pleasure of hosting Caulfield Grammar School last Thursday, while en-route to Mount Gambier for the Generations in Jazz Festival.
Three jazz bands performed for our Year 7 students and Concert Band members offering great exposure to high quality, live music.
Following the concert, Caulfield Grammar students presented valuable small group, instrument specific, interactive workshop sessions to our Year 7 musicians while our current drama students received a demonstration of a wide range of instruments, helping them make informed selections for their musical journey in Semester 2.
Music education is an important part of our curriculum, with all Year 7 students learning an instrument as part of their studies. A collaborative experience like this provides our students with the chance to play alongside more advanced performers, challenging them to elevate their skills and inspiring those who want to continue their musical journey. A highlight of the visit was the opportunity for our Year 8 and 9 concert band students to participate in a combined ensemble rehearsal with the Caulfield musicians.
The visit from Caulfield Grammar School has become a tradition over the years and is part of our ongoing commitment to providing musical experiences for our students connected to current festivals and communities beyond the classroom. We extend our thanks to the staff and students from Caulfield Grammar School for sharing their time and talents with us again this year, and I would like to thank Mrs Toffolon and the Monivae staff for all the arrangements, food prep and availability to make hosting the event a success.
Year 7 students have the opportunity to develop their ensemble skills by joining the Junior Concert Band on Tuesday lunchtimes each week. This ensemble is just for Year 7s.
