Father Jules Chevalier was deeply moved by the evils that afflicted the people of his time. As he contemplated the Heart of Christ, in whom is revealed the compassionate love of the Father, he discovered there the remedy for the ills of the world. Inspired by that love and guided by the Holy Spirit, he founded within the Church the Society of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.
MSC Constitution #3
As we take note of current affairs, we can be forgiven in thinking that the “ills of our time” are a current occurrence. The world has actually always had issues that make us contemplate if there is something we can do to change the world moving forward. Father Jules Chevalier’s message is as relevant today as it was in the 1850s: show love to all, just as the Sacred Heart of Jesus did.
We are reminded about this every day at Monivae College. It is for these reasons we do what we can to help others. Occasions like our annual Tinnies for St Vinnies appeal and Mission Fair Day bring this into sharp focus during Term 3 each year.
Our students are reminded about the Catholic Social Teachings, especially recognising the HUMAN DIGNITY and COMMON GOOD of all, and put in practice ways to do what is best for all to make everyone feel dignified.
Mission Fair Day is our major fundraising day for the year. All funds raised go towards supporting others, we are reminded that we are part of the MSC Heart, and it is our role to be on earth the heart of God. Last year our funds were distributed between the MSC Missions Office, St Vincent de Paul, Caritas and other local organisations.
More will be written about Mission Fair Day for the next newsletter.
In order to ensure we are equipped to help our students understand the importance of all the Catholic social teachings and the MSC ethos, our staff formation continued, with our entire College Leadership Team (Principal, Deputy Principal and all Directors) undertaking an afternoon of formation with the Chevalier Institute. This was spent really delving into MSC Constitution #32 and looking closely at what those words means to us as a College.
Our new staff also undertook formation in the Heart of our Spirit, looking at what it means to be a staff member in an MSC school, and specifically Monivae. The day was well received by the staff.
During the Chevalier Institute visited, our prospective student leaders for 2025 spent a morning participating in formation, before meeting with staff and discussing ideas about leadership in 2025. Well done to all involved in the day.
