Principal's Report

Jonathan Rowe

Dear Parents and Carers,

Today we celebrated “Mission Fair Day” to conclude our term. Last term we concluded with our “Sacred Heart Day”. Most schools have some form of annual celebration day that’s unique to each school and its culture. Schools variously call their day Founders Day, Mercy Day, Feast Day and so on.  Mission Fair Day has its own special and unique feel with twin emphasis on fun and fund raising for MSC Works and other charitable works. The day takes loads of organising and I thank all our staff for supporting the students.

For our Year 12 cohort, this is their final stretch—a critical period in their journey. Practice exams commence week 1 of term 4. To our Vocational Major and Unscored VCE students, most of who concluded their formal studies at the end of this week, we wish you all the best as you enter this next phase of your journey. Many of our young people will be transitioning into full time work over the coming weeks. We look forward to catching up with you at the upcoming final Year 12 Assembly, Graduation Mass and Dinner next term.

In the past weeks, interviews for the 2025 Student Leadership positions have taken place. Our College Captains and Vice Captains have been announced aligning to our new leadership structure. I am sure if you have been connecting via our socials you would have already seen the students chosen.

There is a strong record of student leadership at Monivae College and with the 2025 Captains and Vice Captains announced this is set to continue.  Sincere thanks also go to the many young people who put themselves forward for these positions.  We understand the disappointment of not being included in the final selection.

College Captains: Phoebe Dunn and Luke Hannig

College Vice Captains

• Academic- Jack Roberts

• Arts- Hayley Jellie

• Community- Issy Perkins

• Social Justice- Ava Sobey

• Sports- Campbell Glazebrook

House Captains will be announced in the first week of term 4.

One particularly impressive student achievement this term is Shannon Mhasho (Year 9) who won the Legacy Junior Public Speaking State final in Ballarat. Shannon represented Monivae competing against students from schools around Victoria. Shannon has also been selected to speak at the Shrine of Remembrance next year.

Fiona Mulhall, Deputy Principal, is taking Long Service Leave in Term 4 and Sofia Vearing will be acting in the role. I wish Fiona a safe journey as she walks the Camino, a pilgrimage walk in France and Spain.

Two staff, Viona Towers and Finuala Neeson, head to Indonesia this weekend to

re-establish ties with our sister school Sekolah Kusuma Bangsa, Palembang. The intention of this trip is to develop an immersion program for students.

We also farewell two staff members, Kylie Schurmann (Marketing) and Kait Cornish (LSO), who have taken up opportunities elsewhere. I wish them all the very best in their new roles.

Term four will resume on Monday 7 October.  I wish staff members and students a restful break and a chance to recharge their batteries ahead of Term four.

Please note the hours of the College Office are reduced to 8.30am – 3:30pm during the holidays. Friday 27 September, being a public holiday, the office will be closed.

We thank you Lord, for this term. For our challenges, our successes, and the mistakes from which we have learnt. Be with us as we spend our time with family and friends.

Give us strength and courage to do what is right: to be witnesses of our faith. Help us to be a practical Christian these holidays, to appreciate what others do for us, to give time and effort to help others. To be peacemakers in our family.

Keep us safe in our activities; give us good rest and good fun. Bring us back refreshed and ready for a new term. We thank you for our classmates, teachers, parents and a community that cares for us.

May we always be conscious of you in our lives.

Amen.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be everywhere loved forever

Our lady of the Sacred Heart pray for us

Kind regards,

Mr Jonathan Rowe
