GWR Football – State Qualifying

In July Monivae competed in the GD level footy at Pedrina park. We competed against The Hamilton and Alexandra College, Baimbridge College, and Portland Secondary College. With a below full strength side coached by Clinton Thomas, the boys went undefeated, retaining the shield.

Winning meant the group then travelled to Sebastopol in Ballarat with a full strength side for the GWR level. With typical Ballarat weather, fill in coach Damien Van Someren took the reins from a crook Mr Hatherell. We won games playing Mortlake Secondary, Horsham College, and Ballarat High, before playing the decider against Trinity College Colac to take us through to the next level. With a hard fought effort we came away with the win.

Moving on to the State level on the 20th of August, playing at North Ballarat, the boys played St Mary’s of the Angels SC in even worse conditions. The team put up a strong fight, but inaccuracy and a sloppy second quarter let the team down. Monivae went down by 13 points (3.5.23 to 5.5.35). The loss meant Monivae ended up 8th in the State.

A massive thankyou to everyone involved in another successful year of Senior boys football.

SWZ shoot

The cCay target team has had a busy few weeks with the South West Zone Shoot held in Noorat. Ryder Van Someren and Georgie Harris shot really well giving them an entry into the Victorian State School Championships in Echuca. Georgie came 2nd in the Junior Girls.

Netball Victoria School Netball Championships Finals Day

On Thursday, August 29, our talented Year 9 and 10 girls netball team was able to showcase their skills at the Finals Day of the Netball Victoria State Championships. Competing against some of the best teams in the state, the girls delivered an impressive performance, winning 5 out of their 7 matches and only narrowly missing a spot in the semi-finals.

Throughout the day, the team faced tough competition, achieving narrow victories against strong opponents from Paula College, Firbank Grammar, St. Joseph’s College Echuca, Balcombe Grammar and Trinity College Colac. Each match was a testament to their talent, determination and ability to perform as a team under pressure.

While our girls faced tough competition from Roweville Secondary, the eventual champions, and Lavalla Catholic College, they held their heads high, finishing an impressive 5th in the state. Our girls should be incredibly proud of this achievement, as they have worked hard to unite from many different clubs across the district. A huge congratulations to all our Monivae players and coaches who competed at the Netball Victoria competition this term!

GD Basketball Yr 7&8

Great day out for our Year 7 & 8 basketballers at the Glenelg Division Yr 7&8 Basketball competition. Each team went in to the competition with a positive attitude. The Year 8 girls played well and never looked like getting in trouble, winning all their games. Year 7 boys started the day strongly with a 51-0 game, then went on as a strong knit team to win their competition. Year 7 girls had a tough first game against Bayview where the lead changed a number of times. The girls held on to win. The Year 8 boys had a tough first game against Baimbridge, they won by 1pt. They continued their winning streak to take out Pool A, defeating Portland Secondary in the Grand Final. It was a fast paced game with both teams scoring until the boys started sinking their 3 points and the margin blew out in the second half, giving them the win.

All four teams will head to Ballarat in November for the Regional competition
