Senior School Update

Years 10, 11 and 12 are certainly busy years at BSC! Alongside the demands of their studies, our senior students are making the most of the many opportunities available to them — from music, sport and the arts to leadership, competitions, excursions, performances and community activities. It’s a time of learning, growing and discovering new interests, with plenty happening both inside and outside the classroom. Despite their busy schedules, our senior students continue to show enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to get involved.

Year 12 students are now well into Unit 4 studies, with the final run of VCE SACs being conducted over the next few weeks. It is an important and demanding stage of the year, as students consolidate their learning in the final weeks of their VCE journey and for many students, shifting their focus to the exams. 

Alongside academic commitments, our Year 12 students have also been planning for life beyond secondary school. Pathways Counsellor, Laura Hughes, has run Year Level Assembly designed to support students to explore pathways options including university, TAFE, apprenticeship and employment options. This was complemented by the VTAC Information Night, providing students and families with detailed information about the application process, course selection, preferences and key dates. 

Every Year 12 student has also been invited to book an individual Pathways meeting with Laura, providing an opportunity for one-to-one support and personalised guidance. These conversations allow students to discuss their interests, strengths and aspirations, explore potential courses and pathways, and ask questions about the options available to them beyond Senior School.

Our Year 11 students are now well into Unit 2 studies, with a busy schedule of SACs underway across their subjects. 

This is an important period in the academic year, as students continue to build their knowledge and skills while developing greater independence and confidence in managing the demands of their VCE studies. We encourage students to maintain consistent study habits, stay organised and make use of the support available to them as they navigate this busy time.

Year 11 students are also making some important decisions about their subject selections for Year 12. These conversations provide an opportunity for students to reflect on their interests, strengths and future aspirations as they consider the subjects and pathways that will best support their goals. We look forward to supporting students throughout this process and seeing them make thoughtful and informed choices about their Year 12 programs.

We have been delighted to see student initiative and leadership in action with one talented group of students working with Year 11 Coordinator, Tess Mimmo, to design the 2027 Year 12 hoodies, while another group has developed a proposal for an inaugural Year 11 Celebration event. These projects have been a great opportunity for students to contribute their ideas, build connections, contribute to the life of the school and begin building a sense of anticipation for their final year of Senior School.

Being the first Year 10 group to be part of the Senior Sub-School, we have been very focused this year on the strategies that can be used to ease the transition into VCE. As such, we have tried to align the Year 10 experience to the expectations that they will experience in their final two years of secondary schooling, particularly around set work completion in class and attendance. 

After a very well attended Year 11 2027 Subject Selection Information Night, parents and students were invited to attend 1-1 Subject Selection interviews, where students’ interests, talents and aspirations were discussed to support subject selection. For some students, this will include picking up an Early Start VCE subject or undertaking a Vocational Education and Training subject with a registered training provider. 

Parents and students are reminded that there is still time to undertake Work Experience. Please make sure that you see Laura Hughes, Pathways Counsellor to make arrangements as there is a process that must be followed and forms that must be completed before students can go out and explore the world of work.
