Book Week - Reading is Magic!

Library Trivia Quiz

The Annual Library Trivia Quiz, held over the course of two lunchtimes, attracted a big crowd with thirteen tables competing for prizes and the chance to get their team name engraved on the Perpetual Cup.  Much to everyone’s surprise, there were two winning teams this year - Ambidextrous and The Dabbing Offence.  Congratulations to both teams on a stellar performance and we look forward to the re-match next year!

A big thank you to our quizmaster Dylan Reeves and to the staff who joined student teams.  I would also like to thank our two student judges Alice and Harper who did a fantastic job tallying up the team scores.  We hope everyone had as much fun participating as library staff did planning this event.

Student Book Buy

The 2024 Book Buy table was brimming with the colourful covers of new titles and student book requests - especially for this event.  Students were invited to select a brand new book or two for the library to purchase and be the first to borrow it.  Everyone who selected a book has their name featured on the inside cover of their book.  Next week, these books will be catalogued and issued to students.

Student Book Swap

On Friday the final event for Book Week, the Student Book Swap was held.  Students were encouraged to bring along pre-loved book from home to swap with another student.  A student recommendation is always a good read and so it is hoped these students will have found their next favourite read.

CBCA Shadow Judging 2024

The Shadow Judging wrapped up last week with the MGSC Reading group voting for Inkflower by Suzy Zail as the top CBCA Older Readers book in 2024.  When the Australia-wide voting result came through, the Shadow Judges learnt that 'Inkflower' was indeed the book selected to win by the majority of young adult reading groups around Australia.  Well-picked Shadow Judges!

The CBCAs official judges selected 'Grace Note's as the top book for 2024.  This book, a verse novel about following your passions was set in Melbourne during Covid lockdowns and was another favourite read of the MGSC reading group.  Both books come highly recommended for high school students by our Shadow Judging panel and are available to borrow from the library.
