Music Performance
Winter Concert
On Wednesday 7 August, I had the pleasure of performing at, and being one of the MCs for, the annual Winter Concert at Frankston Arts Centre. It was an incredible night filled with music, enjoyment and amazement as the MGSC music program banded together (yes, pun intended) to showcase their fantastic work this year.
We started the night with the Clarinet and Saxophone ensembles performing in the foyer, and with one of our student-led bands, Blush, opening with their performances of Kilby Girl, and Maneater.
The Year 8 and Symphonic Bands joined to perform a small fanfare to mark the official beginning of the night, followed by the Year 8 band and Junior Strings. As the night progressed, we were rocking along to the Senior and Junior Guitar ensembles, brought into a land of Disney and country by the All Star Choir and Madrigal, bopping our heads to the Percussion Ensemble and dancing along to the Senior and Junior Strings.
Year 7 band brought us to the Dark Side with their performance of Darth MacDonald, the classic nursery rhyme, Old MacDonald, in a minor key. Stage Band brought us along as they embarked on an amazingly dynamic and jazzy performance, and the Symphonic Band took us on a sunlit journey with their challenging and diverse piece.
In an addition to the program, all ensembles came together for the Finale to perform John Farnham’s pop hit Your The Voice, something we began working on at music camp, featuring an incredible guitar solo by Alyssa Coleman, one of our talented Year 12 guitarists, and everyone coming together to put on an extremely entertaining and talent filled show.
A big thank you to Wendy Harvey for her remarkable organisation of the event, as well as her touching goodbye to the Year 12s who performed for the last time, we are all unbelievably grateful. Another massive thank you to all the teachers, music or otherwise, who came along to support their students, and help manage the event. I look forward to coming back to see it next year!

Eisteddfod By The Bay
The Eisteddfod By The Bay held its Junior Vocal Section (up to the age of 18) at the Kingston Arts Centre in early August.
Estelle and Mischa Morgan-Banks (pictured with adjudicator Felicity Baldock) competed in the duet section singing the duet Sisters by Irving Berlin. They sang in harmony and in unison with a perfect blended sound. Their rendition was awarded First Prize.
Congratulations and well done!
