Book Week
Author Talk
This year, graphic novel borrowing has exploded so we jumped at the chance to have Wendy Tyrer, author of the new graphic novel The Curator and MGSC Alumni present to students during book week. Wendy’s presentation was fascinating and conveyed a compelling message as to ‘why stories are important’ – belonging, connection, curiosity, empathy, entertainment and to record history. She spoke in detail about her artistic/writing process and the publishing industry and concluded with a craft activity, How to make a mini Zine. Students certainly walked away with inspiration.
Book Doof
A Book Doof is a silent reading party, that draws inspiration from local and global silent reading parties. Our Book Doof was held in the morning before school, attracting 30+ students who quietly read in a group while ambient music played in the background. They drank hot chocolates (with mini marshmallows) in the warming space of the library while it rained outside - a perfect way to start the school day!
Student Book Buy: The bookstore comes to the library
This was a special event in 2026, generously sponsored by the MGSC PFA.
At this lunchtime event students perused and selected items for the library to purchase. Students were invited to request books before the event with series titles such as: Girl and the Ghost series ; Lord of Mysteries series ; The Lightlark series ; Haikyu!! Graphic novels 1-10, acquired, and ten stand-alone novels. In total, the library was able to purchase seventy new books with funds donated by the MGSC P&F. We are very grateful for their contribution to the beautiful MGSC library.
Trivia Quiz
The Annual Library Trivia Quiz was held over two days on Thursday and Friday and wrapped up Book Week for 2026. Participants were quizzed about general knowledge facts including areas of interest such as books, geography, mathematics, music, pop culture, sport and technology. The winning tables were:
- First place with 75 points – Jobe Supremacy
- Second place with 74 points – The Cookie Monsters.
Team Krill 2.0 finished strong with 72.5 points and right behind them on 72 points were teams We thought this was BINGO and ‘Dreamers often lie’. Thank you to everyone who participated and a big thank you to our Quizmaster Mr Paul McMurray, notably wearing a big sparkly yellow hat, who engaged the room with question after question. I would also like to thank our student judges Demah, Lara and Rose who did a fantastic job tallying up the team scores.
Library staff hope that everyone had as much fun participating in Book Week as we did in the planning of all events.

VCE Exams and SACs - Bound Reference
Best wishes to our VCE students for their upcoming exams. There are many suitable books to borrow during the holidays, with subject matter across the curriculum for VCE students to looking for material to extend their learning and outcomes. Please check with library staff for reading recommendations.
This is a reminder to students and parents that the library has book binding materials and is able to assist students with their bound references.
