Wellbeing Matters

As this term draws to a close, we want to use this newsletter to let you know about some of the key events that have taken place over the past few weeks. With the term break upon us this Friday, we want to share some key information to support you during the term break.

Last Thursday 10 September was R U OK? Day, a day that aims to emphasise the importance of connecting with those around us and taking the time to ask them how they are doing. The key pillars of R U OK? are ask, listen, encourage action and check in. Students were encouraged to engage with these key steps and tell us how they could ask R U OK? by contributing to a collaborative mural or writing an R U OK? postcard to a friend during lunchtime in exchange for popcorn and fruit cups.

Young Women’s program

Tuesday 8 September marked the end of our Young Women’s Program which was facilitated by Kingston Youth Services in partnership with Fiona Vincent, our Mental Health Practitioner. This program ran weekly over seven weeks and covered topics including values, communication, conflict resolution and boundaries, resilience and support options, self-care, mentors and role models.

On Friday 28 August, we marked Wear It Purple Day, a day where schools and communities across the country wear purple to recognise LGBTQIA+ young people everywhere and help foster more inclusive environments for them. Students were encouraged to wear a touch of purple alongside their regular uniform. Activities including bracelet making and a photo booth were held in the quadrangle at lunchtime, led by Respectful Relationships and Wellbeing and supported by our Student Leaders.
