Danielle Wadley, Acting Assistant Principal
I would firstly like to say a big thank you to the Skye school community for welcoming me into the role of Acting Assistant Principal. It has been a big term of learning for me and our students! All of the students who have come and wished me 'congratulations' makes me proud to be a part of this school community.
With that being said, I am looking forward to some rest over the holidays and to recharge ready for a big final term for 2026. Here are some of my thoughts heading into these school holidays...
As the school are here, it can be tempting to fill the calendar with activities, outings and plans. While holidays can be a wonderful opportunity to explore, connect and have fun, they are also an important time to slow down, rest and recharge.
Rest looks different for everyone. For some, it might mean sleeping in and enjoying a slower morning. For others, it might be getting outside, reading a book, listening to music, playing sport or spending time with friends and family. There is no “right” way to spend the holidays — what matters is finding moments that help us feel refreshed and ready for what comes next (Term 4!).
🌙 Rest your body
Allow yourself some extra sleep and downtime. A quiet afternoon, a leisurely morning or an early night can do wonders. Or if you're like me, binge watch something on Netflix or Disney+
🧠 Give your mind a break
School involves lots of thinking, learning and concentrating. Holidays provide an opportunity to give your brain some breathing space.
☀️ Get outside
Fresh air, sunshine and movement can help lift our mood and restore our energy. A walk, bike ride, trip to the park. some gardening or simply sitting outside can be enough.
💛 Connect with others
Spend time with the people who make you feel happy, supported and understood. Shared meals, conversations, games and laughter are all valuable ways to recharge. This holidays, I plan to travel back to Bendigo and catch up with friends. As well as spend time with my niece.
🎨 Make time for things you enjoy
Read, draw, bake, build, create, play music, play a game or pursue a hobby. Enjoyment doesn't need to be productive to be worthwhile.
📱 Take a break from screens
A little distance from devices and social media can create space for sleep, conversation, creativity and being present in the moment. I will take this into account (minimal 'doom' scrolling for me!)
And finally, remember that holidays don't have to be perfect. Some days may be full of adventures, while others might involve pyjamas, a movie and doing very little. Both can be valuable.
Rest is not wasted time. It is part of looking after ourselves.
As we head into the break, let's give ourselves permission to pause, enjoy the little things and return to school feeling rested, refreshed and ready to end 2026 with a BANG!
