Connect: Grade 3 

WOW! WHAT A TERM

What a jam-packed and exciting term it has been for our Grade 3 students! From their very first camp at Golden Valley, Athletics Day, swimming, Father’s Day and countless dance practices, to performing in our whole-school production, the students have taken on every challenge and opportunity with enthusiasm. We have also enjoyed Interschool Gymnastics, Do It For Dolly Day, Book Parade, Pizza Day and the exciting start of the Skye Big Bash League! The students have been absolutely phenomenal throughout the term, and we are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved, so they should be very proud of themselves too. What a wonderful way to finish a huge term—we hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved break!

Head Start for Term 4

Literacy

In Literacy, we will be reading Matilda by Roald Dahl and exploring themes of fairness, friendship, courage, resilience and standing up for what is right. Students will investigate characters, plot, setting and language choices while developing their own imaginative and persuasive writing skills. We will also explore different perspectives on power, rules, fairness and responsibility, encouraging students to share their ideas and justify their opinions.

Maths

In Maths, students will develop their mapping skills by giving and following directions, using maps and grids, and exploring how objects can look different from different perspectives. We will also focus on multiplication and division, with students learning to multiply and divide two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers using hands-on materials and visual representations. Students will continue to build their understanding of the strong connection between multiplication and division as they develop confidence with calculations. Over the holidays, practising skip counting and multiplication facts for 3, 4, 5 and 10 whenever you get a chance would be a great way to prepare for our upcoming multiplication and division unit!
