Connect: Year 5

Dear Grade 5 Parents and Families,

Well, we have made it to the end of Term 3, and what an epic term it has been!

Grade 5 has had an action-packed term filled with so many memorable experiences. From our incredible Sovereign Hill camp, to Athletics, Book Week and an amazing school concert, the students have certainly had plenty to celebrate!

A Well-Earned Break!

After such a busy and successful term, Grade 5 absolutely deserves a well-earned break! We hope the holidays provide plenty of opportunities for students to relax, spend time with family and friends, get outside, read for enjoyment and simply enjoy being kids.

Alongside all of these exciting experiences, our students have continued to work incredibly hard in their learning.

What We Have Been Learning

In English, we have been exploring the history of Australia's colonisation and developing our understanding of its impacts. We have also fallen in love with our new novel, The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. Through this story, students have explored the Arctic environment, polar bears, climate change and the importance of protecting vulnerable habitats. They have used this knowledge to write formal persuasive letters, advocating for the protection and sustainability of polar bear habitats.

In Mathematics, students have been developing their understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages, including how these concepts connect and can be used in real-life situations. We have also been exploring angles, including identifying, measuring, adding and subtracting angles.

In Civics and Citizenship, students have been learning about Australian democracy, including the roles and responsibilities of our government and the different parts of our Parliament.

We have also spent time focusing on wellbeing and help-seeking strategies, learning how to recognise when we might need support, who we can turn to and the different ways we can ask for help.

The students have put an incredible effort into all areas of their learning this term. We are so proud of the way they have challenged themselves, embraced new learning and continued to grow as learners and as a class community.

Thank you for your continued support throughout Term 3. We can't wait to see what Term 4 brings for our amazing Grade 5 students!
