What's happening in our classroom?
Literacy
Next term, students will begin a novel study on Leo and Ralph by Peter Carnavas. The story follows Leo and his best friend Ralph as they navigate friendship, family and the challenges of growing up, offering opportunities to explore themes of belonging, resilience and connection.
The unit will follow a similar structure to our other literacy units this year, with learning focused on comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, sentence-level writing and text-level writing, with a particular focus on narrative writing.
Numeracy
To begin next term, students will explore decimals, focusing on partitioning decimal numbers and writing them in expanded form. For example, 3.45 can be partitioned as 3 + 0.4 + 0.05. Students will also apply their understanding of decimals to real-world financial and measurement contexts.
We will also begin a data investigation unit, where students will pose relevant questions, collect and examine information, and analyse and interpret data presented in pictographs and column graphs.
Inquiry
Properties of Materials, Term 4
In Science, students will explore the properties of natural and made materials, identifying and grouping materials found in everyday objects. They will investigate how properties such as strength, elasticity, conductivity, transparency and flexibility influence the ways materials are used in textiles, construction, technology and other products. Through practical experiments, students will compare materials and develop their understanding of sustainability by exploring concepts such as biodegradable, recyclable and non-recyclable materials, with a particular focus on the uses and environmental considerations of plastics.
Well-being
In Term 4 (Weeks 1-4), students will begin to explore help-seeking strategies as a part of our Respectful Relationships curriculum. They will participate in discussions, games and role plays. Students will discuss questions such as, ‘How big is the problem?’ and ‘Where can I get help?’. They will explore a variety of scenarios and make suggestions around appropriate help-seeking actions.

Footy Day Parade
Our Island Maps
Students enjoyed a fun island map activity where they developed their understanding of important map features. They practised using a scale, creating a legend or key, identifying compass directions and locating places using a grid reference system. This hands-on activity helped students build their confidence in reading and interpreting maps.
