Hi families and friends of grade 1,

What an amazing term we have had. We have had so many big events; swimming, book week, and the concert.

Literacy:

In Little Learners, we are continuing to build our phonics knowledge and learn more sounds using the magic ‘e’! This week, we are exploring ‘o-e’, ‘oe’ and ‘o’ and practising how these sounds can be used when reading and spelling words.

We have now learnt an amazing 41 new phonemes this year! We are becoming such super readers!

In Writing, we have been continuing to develop our persuasive writing skills. We have written letters to our parents trying to convince them to let us have a pet, and even had a go at convincing our chairs to come back after we realised we hadn’t been treating them very nicely! We have been learning how to share our opinions, give strong reasons and use strong words to convince others.

Maths:

During our maths lessons we have begun learning about sharing and making equal groups. We have been sharing amounts to 20 into equal groups, finding half, describing groups, learning about what an array is and investigating amounts that can and cannot be shared equally.

Maths learning in the holidays - Explore ways to encourage your child to share objects equally into groups and between others. Can you share food items equally? Can you share toys equally?

Wellbeing: 

During wellbeing lessons we have been looking at the value of Respect. We have explored respect for country and why it is important.  What does respect look like?  We have been role playing ways we can show respect.
