Library

The whirlwind that has been Term 1 has come to an end, with a well-deserved break ahead for everyone! I’ll keep it pretty brief this newsletter and just recap on a few exciting things that have been happening here in the Library.
International Women’s Day
To celebrate International Women’s Day, Tanja created a fabulous display incorporating some of the beautiful watercolour images from Shout Out to the Girls: A Celebration of Awesome Australian Women. Additionally, she made sure that every single book on display across the whole Library was written by and centring women and girls!
Year 8 Independent Text Study
In Term 2, Year 8 students have the opportunity to study a book of their choice, with the final assessment being the creation of a website about the characters, plot and themes of this book. To get everyone started, we held an assembly for the whole year level to talk about how to choose the right book for you. We had a special guest from Darebin Libraries - Emily - who spoke about how to find a book that you will enjoy and I rounded off the session by demonstrating a few different ways that students could search the Library website to find something right for them. All Year 8s have now selected their text so that they can read and reflect on it over the holidays!
Staff Book Club
We squeezed in two more meetings this term - the first just to chat about whatever we were reading at the time and the second to discuss The Names by Florence Knapp. This book was a sensitive exploration of domestic violence through the interesting format of three possible futures with three different names. The general consensus was that it was a fabulous book with a writing style and plot that had us invested from the very beginning.
Happy holiday reading everyone!
