Year 9 Geography Camp

A group of twenty Year 9 students recently headed to the Mornington Peninsula for their opt-in Geography Camp — three days of hiking and outdoor living along one of Victoria's most beautiful coastlines.
Day one set the tone well. Students arrived at Cape Shank Lighthouse and tackled the scenic walk to Bushrangers Bay. After setting up camp in Sorrento, they cooked their own meals on trangias for the first time, which was an adventure in itself.
Then came day two. What was meant to be the highlight, a Moonraker Dolphin Swim and BBQ lunch, was washed out by a serious turn in the weather. Tents were soaked, the dolphin swim was cancelled, and plans had to change on the fly. But our Year 9s really shone: rather than dwell on the disappointment, they headed into Sorrento for fish and chips, took in a movie at the Sorrento Cinema, and rounded out the evening with dinner at La Porchetta. Spirits were high throughout, with plenty of singing, and the group made it back to school at 11pm that night.
The enthusiasm and resilience our students showed, especially when things didn't go to plan, was genuinely wonderful to see. A huge thank you to the staff, Emily Crocker and Conor Bragge, who turned a washout into a memory.
