Cowan House

Welcome back to Semester Two! I hope everyone enjoyed a well-earned break and has returned refreshed. It hasn't taken long for Term 3 to remind us just how exciting this semester is going to be.

The term began by celebrating our Semester One Academic Award recipients, recognising the effort, perseverance and achievement of our students. Our Year 7s also enjoyed a fantastic day exploring Perth Zoo before all eyes turned to the biggest House event of the term, the Interhouse Athletics Carnival.

What a day it was! At the start of the term, I challenged our students to simply show up, be present and proudly represent Cowan House. They did exactly that. Our attendance at the carnival was the highest of all four Houses, and you could certainly hear and feel the wave of Cowan blue throughout the day. From the sprints, jumps, throws and then the Viking Row, the spirit, effort and energy on display were outstanding. No matter what the final results reveal at Middle Years  Chapel, every Cowan student should be incredibly proud of the way they represented our House. 

As we now look ahead, Battle of the Bands in Week 8 (Tuesday 8 September) is our final major House event for the year. Our choir has been hard at work rehearsing, while our band is fine-tuning their performance. I cannot wait to see both groups take to the stage.

As our inaugural year continues, I couldn't be prouder of what we have achieved together. 

The foundations are strong, the culture is thriving, and the best is still to come.

Gandhi House

It has been a fantastic start to Term Three, with Gandhi students demonstrating enthusiasm, commitment and House spirit across a range of activities and events. Last Wednesday saw the highly anticipated Interhouse Athletics Carnival take place, and it was wonderful to see so many Gandhi students participating to the best of their ability. Whether competing on the track, in the field events, or cheering on their peers from the sidelines, students represented Gandhi House with pride throughout the day. Congratulations to all students who displayed outstanding House spirit and contributed valuable participation points for Gandhi. We were delighted to win! 

A special thank you must also go to our Year 12 leaders for their guidance, encouragement and support throughout the carnival. Their leadership helped create a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all students involved.

It has also been a busy start to the term behind the scenes, with Battle of the Bands rehearsals now in full swing. Students, led by our wonderful Year 12 Leaders, have been working hard in preparation for the performance in Week 8, and we are looking forward to showcasing the talent and enthusiasm of Gandhi House on stage.

Looking ahead, excitement is building for House Week, which takes place next week. A range of activities will be running during pause times, providing students with plenty of opportunities to get involved, have fun and earn valuable points for Gandhi House. Lincoln House

It has been an exciting start to the term for Lincoln as we await the results from the Interhouse Athletics Carnival. It was great to see our Lincoln students competing in the events on the day, and I am so proud of the many students who participated in every event, even if running the 800m wasn’t necessarily their forte. The House is currently sitting in second place in the race for the House Cup, although it is only by a narrow margin! 

With Term Three’s House Week being held next week, it is more important than ever for our Lincoln students to take part and join in an event. With a Minecraft competition, Uno and Volleyball, there will be an activity for all students take part in. 

I would also like to give an update for Lincoln Charity Day which was held at the end of last term. The Lap-a-thon was a success and luckily the weather held out for the students to complete the event staying, mostly, dry. Headspace Osborne Park had come down to the venue to participate in the event once again, helping to raise awareness for youth mental health. 

This is a massive achievement and the most we have raised to date for a Lincoln Charity Day. I have collated the students with the most laps which will be messaged and awarded to students early next week. I would like to express my gratitude for all students who participated on the day, and to everyone who donated to a worthy cause.

Mandela House

A warm welcome back to all Mandela families for Term Three. I hope everyone had a relaxing break and enjoyed some time away from the usual school routine.

We have already had a busy start to the term, with the Interhouse Athletics Carnival taking place in Week 2. It was fantastic to see so many Mandela students getting involved across the track and field events. Just as importantly, those who were not competing showed great House spirit by cheering on their friends and supporting others throughout the day.

A special thank you must go to our Year 12 Mandela students who competed in their final school Athletics Carnival. You gave it your all and represented the House with pride. Well done!

There is still plenty to look forward to this term. Next week is House Week, where students will compete against the other Houses in volleyball, an UNO competition and “Build a House for Your House” using Minecraft Education.

Later in the term, we will have the annual Battle of the Bands and House Choir competition. Students have already started rehearsing, and it is shaping up to be a great night.

We will then finish the term with the Mandela Charity Day Talent Show. Expressions of interest will be shared in the coming weeks for students who would like to be part of the show.

It is going to be another exciting term for Mandela!
