Year 11 & 12

Stepping up and looking ahead

As we move through Term Three, there is always a noticeable shift within our Senior School. For our Year 12 students, the countdown to the end of their school journey has truly begun. For our Year 11 students, it is the time to begin looking ahead and considering the legacy they hope to leave as they prepare to become our future Year 12 leaders. It is a term that perfectly reflects our school theme of Embrace, Excel and Empower.

For our Year 11 students, the leadership process is now under way, with nominations having closed last week. Over the coming weeks, students will be preparing their vision statements, which will be displayed around the school before voting begins. I am very much looking forward to reading these this year. They provide a wonderful insight into the ideas, passions and aspirations of our students, and the many ways they hope to contribute to our School community. Leadership is about much more than wearing a badge. It is about embracing opportunities to serve others, empowering those around you and striving to leave the School a little better than you found it.

There will also be opportunities for students to step into leadership through service, with volunteers needed for our Open Day on Friday 21 August. Open Day is a chance for prospective families to experience the welcoming community that makes St George's so special, and our students play such an important role in making that first impression.

For our Year 12 students, the focus now begins to narrow as they prepare for the final academic milestones of their schooling. A timeline of the remaining Year 12 events will be shared in the coming weeks, helping students and families navigate the exciting weeks ahead. Before the celebrations begin, there is still important work to be done. ATAR students will undertake their Mock Examinations in Weeks 9 and 10, providing an invaluable opportunity to refine their preparation before the final WACE examinations. At the same time, our APEx students will participate in World of Work Week during Week 10, taking another important step towards their future careers and post-school pathways.

While there are certainly busy weeks ahead, there is also something exciting about this stage of the year. The finish line is now visible. After years of learning, challenges, achievements and growth, our Year 12 students are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. My encouragement to them is simple: embrace every opportunity that these final months have to offer, continue to strive for excellence in all that you do, and never underestimate the impact you can have by empowering those around you. These final moments at school often become the memories that stay with you for a lifetime, so make the most of every one of them.
