Career Council of Australia (CICA), National Careers Week 13-19 May

With National Careers Week approaching, I thought it would be a good opportunity to share some worthwhile information on Careers Education and Planning. I will be sharing some of these resources through the Shelly Careers Page as well. This first one is a great read for parents, to allow them to understand the role that they play in assisting teenagers with their career planning.

VCE and Careers Expo 2024

Australia's biggest education and careers event is now in its 32nd year in a NEW, BIGGER VENUE!

An extensive range of exhibitors from all over Australia will be in attendance providing:

Information and resources for the VCE
Information about tertiary study, university, TAFE, and training courses
Career advice

Employment advice and opportunities
Apprenticeship and traineeship advice
International exchange and gap year programs

Over and above access to exhibitors, attendees will also have access to VCE and Careers Expo: Seminars on topics including:

This event will take place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 9.00am – 3.00pm on Thursday 2 – Saturday 4 May 2024.

The cost of tickets is $15 per person – online pre-purchase only, children under 14 free.

Magnify Winter Music Camp 2024

Magnify is a high-level music intensive for students wanting to fast track their careers and boost their skills. Meet other high school musicians (aged 14-18) and take part in this unique music camp where you will develop the real-world skills you’ll need in your music career.

During this week-long camp, students will get to participate in daily tutorials, workshops and collaborative sessions, getting the opportunity to develop skills in song writing and composition, improvisation and arranging. Students will also record a real studio session in Sing Sing East and take part in workshops in social media and online marketing to promote their music.

Date: Monday 8 July – Friday 12 July 2024

Time: 9.30am – 4.30pm each day (with a concert on Friday night (6pm - 7pm)

Cost: $450

Numbers are restricted to 30 participants, and entry is by audition (video, submitted by email).

Simpson Barracks Open Day 2024

Join us at Simpson Barracks for a day filled with interesting and engaging military displays and demonstrations. Explore the displays, interact with soldiers, and learn about their daily lives. Witness thrilling demonstrations and enjoy this fantastic opportunity to experience military life up close and personal. Don't miss out on this unforgettable event!

This event is being developed to showcase the variety of careers with Army and Defence, and students in Years 10 – 12 (along with their parents) are encouraged to attend. The Royal Australian Army Corps of Signals Museum and Royal Australian Army Pay Corps Museum are located at Simpson Barracks.

Date: Sunday 5 May 2024

Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm

Location: Simpson Barracks, 200 Greensborough Road in Macleod VIC 3085 Note: A shuttle bus will run from Watsonia Station to Simpson Barracks throughout the day.

Conditions of Entry:

Entry ticket must be presented upon entry on to Simpson Barracks for the nominated entry time.
Individual Entry Tickets are required to be ordered for all attendees over the age of 2 years old.
Travelling on the base is limited to pedestrian foot traffic only - no bicycles will be permitted to enter the establishment.
No alcohol is permitted to be brought on base.
Bag searches will be conducted on entry.
