Senior Years Update
It has been wonderful to begin our Term 2 with the highlight of the social calendar, the Senior Years Formal. Students returned from their holiday with the air of excitement building for this event. The week saw many excited conversations that built to a crescendo come Period 4 on Friday. There was much discussion about returning guests, dresses, nails, tans, hair, and the hope for songs on the DJ’s playlist.
Friday's formal was a wonderful reminder of the community that Shelford builds. Students were excited to see one another, mingled around tables and shared the dancefloor with numerous teachers who were able to come and support the event through the generosity of SPA, we thank them for their help with this. Once again, the photobooth proved incredibly popular with staff and students taking to the booth to capture some treasured memories.
With the formal now complete, we turn our attention to preparing for the upcoming assessments and excitement of events in Term 2. It is another busy term with us preparing for Y11 Examinations, the General Achievement Test (GAT), House Performing Arts and the senior production of Clue: On Stage. Some of the key events for our term are outlined below for each Year level.
Year 11
Our focus is on study habits and skills. What is study? How do learning and memory link and how can we study best to enhance our performance? During our wellbeing program we will host a series of sessions on learning and memory delivered by Ms Karen Whelan, our school psychologists and myself.
The Y11 cohort also has a series of events that are occurring this term as per the schedule below:
Senior School Play- Clue: On Stage Friday the 26th of April and Saturday the 27th of April
Y11 Tertiary Experience Thursday the 2nd of May
Y11 Examination Week 3rd-7th of June
HPA Week 11th June-14th of June
The GAT Tuesday the 18th of June
Year 12
Students in Y12 are focusing on balancing the demands of multiple SACs. Learning to interweave their study schedules so that they can focus on the demands of multiple tasks, rather than one SAC at a time. We are also taking time this term to preserve memories of the Class of 2024. We will be engaging in memory journal activities and a filming project to include in our archives.
Students will also be involved in the following events:
Senior School Play- Clue: On Stage Friday the 26th of April and Saturday the 27th of April
HPA Week 11th June-14th of June (students will still have Unit 3 classes in this week).
The GAT Tuesday the 18th of June
