Year 1 STEM – All Aboard the LEGO Coding Express!
This week in STEM, our Year 1 students explored the idea of a NETWORK and discovered how many connected parts can work together to make a system move or communicate. We talked about networks all around us – like the nervous system, train systems, and computer systems – and how each part works together to make the whole system function.
Using the LEGO Coding Express Kit and App, the students built their own 3-city train track loops and learned to connect them with double-ended tracks to link multiple loops. They designed simple trains, built their cities, and controlled the trains using the iPad and the Coding Express App. Each student also came up with a creative name for their city!
It was amazing to watch the students collaborate and communicate, carefully planning how to keep their trains from colliding. There were lots of laughs as they worked together to manage the busy tracks!
Our Year 1 engineers showed incredible creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork – a joy to see in action!
