Year 4 News

We hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and the beautiful weather!
Writing
As writers, we have been investigating persuasive writing, linking to our Health learning about communication and expressing needs. Students have been learning how to grab the reader’s attention, give reasons, and use persuasive language to convince their audience. This week, we focused on identifying persuasive techniques in texts, discussing how they influence the reader, and practising using them in our own writing.
St John First Aid incursion
Our Year 4 students participated in a St John First Aid incursion, where they learned important skills to help keep themselves and others safe. During the session, students explored basic first aid, including how to recognise an emergency, who to ask for help, and simple ways they can respond if someone is hurt. They also practised staying calm, calling for help, and understanding how first aid can make a positive difference in an emergency. This hands-on experience helped students build confidence and learn how they can care for others in a safe and responsible way.
Mathematics – Time
As mathematical thinkers, the Year 4s have begun our unit on time. We have been learning to read and write time in am and pm notation, calculate elapsed time to the hour and five minutes, and determine start and finish times. Students will explore number lines, skip counting, and counting on/back strategies to solve problems, including those that cross midday or midnight. We have also explored converting between units of time to solve real-life problems.
Religion
As members of faith, we have been learning about peace and how we can live as global citizens by showing care, respect, and understanding in our school and community. Students reflected on how small actions can make a positive difference and connected this to the message of John 20:19, where Jesus brings peace and calm to his disciples. These ideas are guiding our preparation for the upcoming school ceremony, helping students think about how they can share peace and hope with others in their words and actions.
