Foundation News

With only a few weeks left in the term, our classrooms have been full of learning and fun. The students have begun practising some songs for Holy Week, which we look forward to sharing as we approach this special time in our Church calendar.

What a wonderful turn out at the Foundation and Year 5/6  Buddy Mass last Sunday 15th March. It was fantastic to see everyone in the Hall after Mass socialising with each other. We thank the Year 5/6  Buddies for the lovely messages that were attached to each purple bear that the Foundation students received at the end of Mass. The bears and messages will be treasured always..

This week we launched our new Inquiry unit, “What’s Good for Me?”and the students were very excited to experience their first incursion. Keegan from Daley Nutrition visited our classrooms to talk about healthy food in a fun and engaging way. We were introduced to the superhero Captain Vita, who gets her superpowers by fuelling her body with healthy foods.

The students learnt about what makes a healthy plate and how including different food groups helps keep our bodies strong and healthy like superheroes. They had lots of fun making their own superhero masks decorated with their favourite fruits and vegetables before creating some delicious snack art using rice cakes, oranges, capsicum, carrots and celery. The best part was getting to eat our creations at the end!

As writers, the students followed up this experience by writing about the snack art they created and drawing a detailed picture to match. We look forward to continuing to explore what is good for our bodies in our future Inquiry lessons.

As communicators, the students had the opportunity to share their “ME Bags” with the class. It was a wonderful way for us to get to know each other better and learn new things about our friends, while also practising speaking in front of a group. We were so proud of each student’s presentation and shared many fun moments and laughs along the way. Thank you to our families for helping the students prepare and bring in their ME Bags.

This week we are learning to…

Reading/Phonics: Link the sounds /p/ and /i/ to the letters p and i, and practise blending and segmenting the sounds m, s, t, a, p and i.

Writing: Write about things we have seen or done using our letter/sound knowledge.

Numeracy: Order numbers, identify one more and one less, and match written number words to numerals.

Inquiry: Identify foods that are good and not so good for our bodies.

Religion: Describe the events of Holy Week (Holy Thursday - The Last Supper).TRP: Describe what peace is.

Wishing everyone a great week!
