Learning and Teaching

Learning and Teaching at St Fidelis
At St Fidelis, we believe children learn best when they are engaged in meaningful and personalised learning experiences. Our classrooms promote collaboration, inclusion, safety, and strong relationships, where student voice is valued. Teachers use regular feedback, assessment and data to guide instruction and help students take responsibility for their learning.
Our Learning and Teaching Statement
At St Fidelis, we believe that children learn best when ..
- Engaged in purposeful, authentic and personalised learning experiences;
- Feedback is regular and empowers students to take responsibility for their learning.
- Collaboration, inclusivity and safety is promoted in the learning environment.
- Student voice is valued and promoted.
- Relationships between staff, students, and families are fostered.
- Data and assessment is used to plan and differentiate learning.
Our approach is guided by the Vision for Instruction from the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS). This framework supports high-quality, evidence-based teaching so that every student can flourish academically, socially and spiritually. It focuses on explicit teaching, a knowledge-rich curriculum, and high expectations for all learners, while remaining grounded in Catholic values.
To ensure every student receives the support they need, we use a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). This includes quality teaching for all students, targeted small-group support for those who need additional help, and individualised support for students with greater learning needs.
To support students, we use a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) – a framework that ensures every student receives the right level of support at the right time:
- Tier 1: Quality teaching for all students in every classroom.
- Tier 2: Targeted small group interventions for students who need extra help.
- Tier 3: Intensive, individualised support for students with significant
learning needs.
This approach helps us create a consistent and inclusive learning environment where every child can grow academically, socially, and spiritually, in line with the Catholic mission of education.
