VCE Art
The VCE Art: Creative Practice class enjoyed an excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria recently to see the extensive Yayoi Kusama exhibition.
It was a bright, engaging display, and we started the visit with an informative lecture by one of the education officers, that gave us a better understanding of the context of the artworks.
Kusama’s obsession with repetition, pattern, polka dots and pumpkins has clear ties to her childhood memories and mental health, and results in artworks that are visually stimulating, aesthetically pleasing and sometimes overwhelming.
The students engaged in analytical conversation with the education staff, looking for an understanding of the artworks, and were immersed in the installation works.
