Staff Profile

Anthony Avanessian

This is my first official teaching position at my current school and I am grateful for the opportunity to work in an environment so close to where I live.

Being part of a school within my local community allows me to build meaningful connections with both students and staff, fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Before becoming a full-time teacher, I gained extensive experience in education through various roles. I worked as a tutor for 12 years, specialising in mathematics and science, where I helped students of different ages develop their understanding and confidence in these subjects.

Additionally, I have been actively involved in sports as both a referee and coach in basketball, which has strengthened my leadership, teamwork, and mentoring skills.

In terms of my academic background, I first pursued an Associate Degree in Engineering Technology at RMIT University. I then continued my studies to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Victoria University.

My passion for education led me to further my qualifications, where I completed four units in chemistry and ultimately earned a Master’s Degree in Secondary Teaching from Deakin University, specialising in inclusive learning, science, and mathematics.

Since joining Scoresby College, I have been impressed by the welcoming and friendly nature of the students, as well as the dedication and passion of the teaching staff in helping students reach their full potential. I strongly believe in the importance of creating an engaging and inclusive learning experience that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration.

Outside of the classroom, I have a strong passion for sports, particularly basketball, badminton, and soccer. I regularly participate in lunchtime sports activities with students, fostering a positive school culture and promoting physical activity.

Currently, I am teaching:

  • Digital Technology: Years 7, 8, and 10
  • Mathematics: Years 7, 8, and 9
  • Science: Years 7 and 8

I am excited to continue contributing to the school community, inspiring students to develop their skills and pursue their passions in technology, science, and mathematics.
