Indonesian Celebrations

80 years of Independence

The 17th of August 2025 marked a significant milestone for our neighbours in Indonesia as they reach 80 years of independence.

As part of the official celebrations held in our own nation’s capital, a scholarship was offered for two Indonesian language teachers and five Year 12 students from various schools across Victoria to fly to Canberra and be hosted by the Indonesian Embassy. Our Indonesian Faculty Leader, Daniel Bradbury, was one of the teachers awarded this scholarship and was given the chance to spend a few days staying at the residence of the Indonesian Ambassador.

The weekend included taking part in a flag-raising ceremony, meeting diplomats, and enjoying delicious Indonesian cuisine. Tours of the War Memorial, National Museum and Parliament House were also included. But the highlight for Daniel was the chance to get to know the Ambassador and his wife over relaxed conversations and good meals at his home.

This was a rich experience for all the participants, and one which served to strengthen our relationship with Indonesia.
