AFL Umpiring
In Year 10 PE-Sport Science
Throughout Year 10 PE-Sport Science, we have been learning more about sport, the factors that impact performance and what we can do to be involved. As part of this and building upon ideas and practices completed in Year 9, students undertake a mini umpiring course (in the sport of AFL) that provides them with the basic skills of AFL umpiring and the opportunity should they want to take it further after this course.
Umpiring in sport is a great way to be involved and serve the community through being a welcoming advocate. Recently some of our students took up an opportunity that was given to them after completing this course. The opportunity they took was to go to an AFL game and umpire the AusKick games during halftime of the Western Bulldogs and West Coast Eagles game on Sunday 17 August at Marvel Stadium. Olivia, Eli, Gabe & Leila were incredible the way they interacted with the AusKickers and displayed their humility to serve others through umpiring, allowing the young players to be able to play the game.
