Shrek

After months of planning, rehearsing, learning lines, sewing, glueing, singing, prancing, cutting, painting, laughing, crying and so much more, Shrek hit the stage and it was nothing short of amazing!

The best part for me was the way that our students conducted themselves on stage and off stage. Stories are flowing of the genuine encouragement and care that students were displaying to each other, and I also got to see and experience this!

I am deeply grateful for every student involved, from the backstage crew and sound and lighting gang to the dancers, to the actors, to the singers and the main cast. You guys showed our community skills beyond measure.

I am equally grateful to our staff for their patience, grace and commitment to the show being the best it could be. Thank you all, as a production impacts an entire community!

And to you, our parents, thank you for partnering with us and for your support of the production. From countless emails of information to sometimes inconvenient pickups from rehearsals.

To God be the glory for the skills and talents that we were able to celebrate on and off the stage!

The beautiful thing about school life is that despite Shrek being a major focus, lots of other things have been happening as well. Here is a snapshot of some of those…

Welcome Back Morning Tea

I always enjoy the opportunity to catch up with parents at our 'Welcome back to Term' morning teas. If you haven’t had the opportunity to come along and be part of one of these, can I encourage you to? It’s a great way to meet other parents and enjoy a lovely morning tea!

Parent Seminar

This term, our parent seminars continue. These seminars are for new parents to assist them in understanding who MECS is as a school and as a part of enrolment agreements, new parents are expected to be there. We talk about all sorts of things, this term being a focus on the world views we hold and how MECS is underpinned by a biblical world view or perspective. We also look at the stories that shape our kids lives and we throw in a few guiding thoughts about technology and use of it in the home.

If you’ve ever missed a seminar and you’d be keen to attend, you could contact the office and let them know of your interest.

School at Work Tours

We love our 'school at work tours' which really capture MECS in a normal context. We don’t polish up the school like we might for an open day, but we let small groups of parents come and check us out, just as we are. This is proving to be a great way to share how special MECS is with prospective parents. Thanks to the team behind these mornings!

Ranges TEC Restaurant Night

Over at Ranges TEC, our Hospitality students have the opportunity to plan, prepare and serve a meal to their families. These nights are called 'Restaurant Nights'. Last week, the board was invited to the 'practice' restaurant night where the head chef and teacher, Alex, modelled to the students the process, with the students assisting with the preparation and serving. I have to say, I could have been dining at a hatted restaurant! It was delicious! The deconstructed niçoise salad was my favourite!

CEN T&L Summit

Recently, our Head of Secondary, Emma Allison and Head of Primary, Malcolm Pirie presented at a Teaching and Learning Summit which was held by Christian Education National, at Chairo Christian School. Emma and Malcolm were able to share the teaching and learning framework that has been developed at MECS and this was very well received by the other Teaching and Learning leaders there. I was very proud of our Heads of school!

100 Days of School!

What a joy to see our Preps dress up as elderly people, complete with walking sticks, curlers, walking frames and plenty of glasses and shawls! The Preps had a wonderful celebration together. We love our Preps and we are very excited about the progress that they have made so far this year.

Preparing for Gawa Visit

Preparations are underway for MECS to host two groups of students from Gawa Christian School, which is a Christian Indigenous School on Elcho Island, Arnhem Land. We have a long standing relationship with this school and look forward to making new friends and catching up with old ones. The Gawa visitors will be coming in two separate groups, from early September.

Cheers,

Michelle
