Shrek the Musical

Talent, Teamwork, and a Whole Lot of Laughter

And that’s a wrap! Shrek the Musical was an absolute triumph. Not only did we enjoy sold-out audiences and outstanding student performances, but what impressed me most was the incredible attitude of our hardworking cast and crew.

Of course, my primary goal is always to put on a fantastic show – and from all reports, we certainly achieved that. While there were the inevitable technical hiccups that come with live theatre, the feedback from our audiences has been overwhelmingly positive. Comments such as “the funniest show I’ve ever seen”, “the best high-school production I’ve attended”, and “such talented students” speak volumes about what was achieved.

But just as important to me is the experience our students gain along the way.

From actors and dancers to backstage crew, tech, and make-up, it was heartwarming to see smiles, friendships forged, and students genuinely looking out for one another. The sound technician at Burrinja even made special mention of how impressed he was with the students’ maturity, their teamwork, and the way our older students supported and encouraged the younger ones. To me, that is true success.

When it came to the performances themselves, I could not have been prouder. Every single student gave their very best – not one looked out of place or gave less than 100%.

A special shout-out must go to our incredible lead cast: Sam (Shrek), Lily (Donkey), Meg (Fiona), Mila (Ogress Fiona), Euan (Lord Farquaad), and Hannah (Dragon). Each of them gave everything they had, stretching themselves mentally and physically to deliver performances that will be remembered for years to come.

And when the unexpected happened – as it always does in theatre – our students showed resilience and professionalism well beyond their years, never missing a beat. That in itself is something to celebrate.

To our staff, tech crew, parents, stage-hands, front of house team, and backstage helpers – thank you. This production would not have been possible without you. Whether you lifted one mascara brush, moved a single set piece, or gave up countless hours at rehearsals, please know that your contribution mattered deeply. You were part of something much bigger: a true community-building event.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came along, bought a ticket, and supported our students. You helped make Shrek the Musical an unforgettable experience.
