Year 10 Northern Territory Trip

An unforgettable journey through the Red Centre

At the end of August, thirty excited Year 10 students set off from Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport for an unforgettable adventure through the heart of the Northern Territory. Over eight incredible days, students explored Australia’s spectacular Red Centre, connected with Aboriginal culture, challenged themselves in the outback and created memories to last a lifetime.

Alice Springs Beneath a Million Stars

Our adventure began in Alice Springs with Remote Tours and a visit to the Alice Springs Reptile Centre, where students came face-to-face with some of Australia’s most fascinating reptiles.

West MacDonnell Ranges Adventure Awaits

The following day, students explored the rugged beauty of the West MacDonnell Ranges. Hiking across dramatic landscapes, navigating rocky terrain provided plenty of adventure, laughter and opportunities to step outside their comfort zones.

Lilla Learning on Country

A standout experience was our time at Lilla, a remote Aboriginal community where students were warmly welcomed and immersed in local culture. Over two days, Elders shared stories, knowledge and connections to Country, taking students to significant sites and demonstrating how stories and traditions are passed down through generations.

These experiences provided valuable opportunities to listen, learn and develop a deeper appreciation of Aboriginal culture, history and enduring connections to Country.

Uluru and Kata Tjuta

Our journey continued to Yulara, our base for exploring the extraordinary landscapes of Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Students tackled the spectacular Valley of the Winds walk, winding through the towering domes of Kata Tjuta, before exploring Uluru on foot and learning about the stories and cultural significance of this remarkable place.

Sunsets across the desert, evenings around the campfire and nights spent sleeping beneath an incredible canopy of stars provided moments of wonder, reflection and connection that will stay with students long after returning home.

More Than a Trip

The Northern Territory experience was about so much more than the places we visited. Sharing long bus journeys, campfires, challenging hikes and life under the stars strengthened friendships and brought students closer together as a year level. Most importantly, the opportunity to learn on Country and engage with Aboriginal knowledge and traditions offered meaningful perspectives that cannot be gained from a classroom alone.
