From the Principal

Welcome back! I hope all students, staff and families enjoyed a restful break and are ready for the final term of what has so far been an extraordinary Centenary year at Northcote High School. Term 4 is always a busy and rewarding time, with many opportunities to celebrate student achievement and reflect on the year.

Our Year 12 students are now approaching the final days of their secondary schooling, with a range of respectful celebrations marking this important milestone. It has been wonderful to see students enjoying these occasions together, including their final day activities and celebration breakfast. As they prepare for their VCE examinations and final assessments, we wish them every success and look forward to celebrating their time at NHS at their Graduation Ceremony in November.

Over the holiday break, three groups of students and staff travelled overseas as part of our Global Education program. Our Music and Science Tour to China, including a visit to our sister school in Huaibei, the Ancient Worlds Tour to Italy and Greece, and our Italian Language Exchange in Rome all provided extraordinary opportunities for students to deepen their learning, experience different cultures and develop new friendships. These programs are a wonderful reflection of the global connections that have become such an important part of our school. A very big thank you to the staff who accompanied our students and made these experiences possible. We look forward to sharing more about their adventures in this and subsequent newsletters.

Our Year 8 students also recently returned from their Adventure Camp, where they participated in a range of challenging outdoor activities designed to develop confidence, teamwork and resilience. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to strengthen friendships and build connections across their cohort. Thank you to the Junior School team, Connect teachers and other Year 8 teachers who attended.

Last week, we celebrated our students at the Meliora Sequamur Awards Evening, recognising those who have made outstanding contributions to our school through their learning, leadership, and commitment to our values. The evening was a wonderful celebration of the many ways students contribute positively to our community. Congratulations to all award recipients, and thank you to Jaymie Metcalf, our fantastic student leaders and the staff who supported the event.

We also enjoyed our Senior Music Concert in the school Hall, celebrating the remarkable talents of our senior musicians, including those completing their final year in the Music Program. It was a fitting opportunity to recognise their dedication and the important contribution they have made to the musical life of Northcote High School.

Our Year 12 International Program students were also recognised at a special farewell dinner celebration. It was wonderful to acknowledge their achievements, friendships and contributions to our school community, and to thank many of their classroom teachers who have supported them throughout their time at NHS.

As we move through Term 4, there is still much to look forward to across the school. I encourage all students to remain focused on their learning, and take advantage of the many remaining opportunities available.
