Year 9 ManCave & Big Sister Experiences

The Big Sister Experience: Making Meaningful Connections

The Big Sister Experience workshop was a powerful and memorable experience for our students. Through honest conversations, laughter and heartfelt compliments, students strengthened their connections, developed greater empathy and gained a deeper understanding of each other’s experiences.

Student feedback highlighted how helpful and enjoyable the workshop was, with many students gaining new perspectives and respect for their peers. While conversations around mental health and suicide were challenging, students recognised the importance of these discussions.

A big thank you to The Big Sister Experience for creating a safe space for meaningful conversations, connection and personal growth.

The Man Cave Understanding Self workshop supported students to explore their identity, emotional wellbeing and what it means to be a healthy man. Through engaging activities and open discussions, students developed their emotional literacy, challenged outdated stereotypes around masculinity and practised expressing their feelings using the Check-In tool. The session encouraged students to recognise and celebrate each other’s strengths, build stronger connections and reflect on the kind of person they want to become.

"Nice to see some of our male students open up about some personal battles - some big and some small. Would very much love to see the program run again."

"The facilitators had a great rapport with the students that they developed over the day. Remembering their names and calling back to past things they had shared was impressive. Kids seemed happy and engaged."
