Food Technology Excursions

Year 9 Vegan Restaurant Excursion

On Wednesday 2nd of April 2025 my food Tech class went into the city to try vegan foods at a restaurant called “Vegie Bar”. This was part of our Special Diets unit that we have been undertaking during Term 1.

We tried a selection of different foods from different cultures, such as the spiced chicken bao bun, and the Holy smokes pizza. Many people enjoyed the food as well as the mango lassi that was provided to us. The cost was less than most other places I know, and they were very welcoming. This was an interesting experience for us to try vegan food when we usually wouldn’t. This wasn’t to make people vegan either, it was a way to experience more than we usually would.

Year 10 William Angliss Institute Excursion

On Tuesday 22nd and Thursday 24th of April, 52 Year 10 food tech students had the opportunity to attend an excursion to the William Angliss Institute where we had a tour of the facility and introduction to the courses they provide such as baking, patisserie, tourism, hospitality and event management.

After our tour our teacher Mrs Johnson turned a 20 minute walk into 40 minutes by taking us to get chocolate samples from Koko Black and Haigh to compare them. We then continued to the days main event at the Crown Conservatory buffet where we enjoyed a range of seafood, meat, cheese, pasta, carvery, and dessert.

Upon arrival at both William Angliss and Crown Conservatory we were given question sheets to fill out thus putting you in the running for a prize, after both of these events we finally returned to the station and went back to Watergardens by train to be dismissed.

Attending this event has assisted us and many others giving us ideas of how advantageous attending William Angliss would be and a more diverse appreciation of the food industry.
