DAV Schools’ Competition Rd 5 2019

On the 6th August the Girton Grammar School Debating Teams competed in the final round of the Debater’s Debaters’ Association of Victoria Schools’ Competition. The students were well-prepared and competing strongly.

 

In D Grade, the D1 team consisting of Bella Marchant (8M), Aksharan Shobanan (8R), Viran Dharnapala (8R) and Remus Brasier (8M) competed in one debate, That refugees should have full access to the Australian welfare system, losing narrowly.

 

 

Our D3 team consisting of Oshadha Kodippiliarachchi (7Jo), Jenna Ackland (7Jo) and Bailey Dolan (7A) competed in the debate above, winning by 1 point.

 

 

Special thanks go to Mrs Barton and the VCE Grade students for helping the juniors prepare their debates.

 

In C Grade, the C1 team consisting of Lasith Kulasekera (10Jo) and Janidu Hathurusinghe (10Je) and Will Hamilton (9Je) competed in one debate, That too many people go to university winning by 1 point. Congratulations Will who won best speaker in the debate and to the team who will now proceed to the State Playoffs.

 

 

The C2 consisting of Sam Wardrop (9A), Nathan Jones (10Jo) and Eric Lovett (10Jo) debated the same topic above, losing by 1 point.

 

 

In the VCE Grade, our Year 11 team 1 consisting of Dominic Tune (11Je), Noah Ashby (11F) and Dinith Tennakoon (11Je) competed in the secret topic debate, That all university education should have no costs to the student, losing by 3 points. Congratulations Dominic who won best speaker and to the team who will now proceed to the State Playoffs.

 

 

Our VCE Grade Year 11 team 2 consisting of Arunika Madina (11Je), Zoe Hilson (11F), Sophie Thompson (11F), Simone Stephens (11F) and Woaliba Hadi (10F) competed in the secret topic above winning narrowly by 1 point. Congratulations to the team who will now proceed to the State Playoffs.

 

 

Our VCE Grade Year 11 team 3 consisting of Soumik Das (11F), Jake Arulsuthan (11F), Danai Mahachi (11F) and Flynn Edwards (11M) had the bye, but will now also proceed to the State Playoffs.

 

Our VCE Grade Year 12 team 1 consisting of Abbey Saxon (12F), Charlie Wardrop (12A) and Jordan Rogers (12M) competed in the secret topic above winning by 2 points. Congratulations to Jordan who won best speaker and to the team who will now proceed to the State Playoffs.

 

 

 

Our VCE Grade Year 12 team 2 consisting of Conrad Livingstone (12F), Thomas Millar (12Jo), Tafara Mhindurwa (12F) and Liam Tinker (11A) competed in the secret topic above losing by 2 points. Congratulations to the team who will now proceed to the State Playoffs.
