Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and is a very special and sacred time for many Muslim families. In 2025, Muharram begins on the evening of Friday, June 27. It is a time for reflection, prayer, and remembering important events in Islamic history. One of the most significant days in this month is the Day of Ashura, which falls on the evening of Sunday, July 6. During Muharram, values such as kindness, gratitude, patience, and standing up for what is right are remembered and honoured. As a school, we acknowledge and support our Muslim students and families during this important time.
This week, our school celebrated Matariki, the Māori New Year, which begins on Friday, 20th June 2025. Matariki marks the rising of a special group of stars and is a time for remembering those who have passed, celebrating the present, and looking forward to the future. Students took part in storytelling, singing, and creative star-themed activities. It’s a meaningful time for whānau to come together, share kai (food), and reflect on what they are grateful for as they set new goals for their year ahead.
