Our Learning - Weeks 10 & 11
During this fortnight in the 3-and 4-year-old kindergarten, the children have been undertaking learning in the following areas:
Pre-Reading: Identifying the first letter in their names, exploring the sounds the letter makes and brainstorming other words that start with that letter. Telling the story behind the pictures they have created. Reading stories based on the pictures. Engaging in book walks, understanding front covers, back covers and titles of books. |
Pre-Writing: Writing names or mark making to identify their artwork. Using whiteboards to freely explore mark making. Strengthening and refining our fine motor muscles through the use of dough and clay, threading activities, picking up small items. Using Tommy Turtle language and cards to write names. Using droppers to create art, squeezing one drop at a time. |
STEM : For children to develop an understanding of positional concepts -under/over/in front/behind. For children develop an understanding of cause and effect through building marble runs. |
Inquiry : Our World, our future- developing an understanding of the impact our actions have on the environment now and in the future. Sorting rubbish into correct bins-compost, general waste, recycling, soft plastics. Using recycled materials in their play. Making new paper out of our old paper scraps. Consolidating our understanding of our impact on the environment. |
Social & emotional learning : Focusing on how our body feels when we have different emotions. Recognising how others feel using body language and verbal language. Building connections between the ELC and School with our Grade 3 buddies. Continuing to explore the Zones of Regulation to identify how we are feeling, what made them feel that way and implementing strategies we can use to return to the 'green zone.'
