Recently, our Year 7 and 8 students participated in Pastoral and Wellness Sessions focused on the important topic of cyber safety. Delivered in partnership with external facilitators and supported by St George’s staff, the sessions encouraged students to reflect on their digital habits and explore strategies for staying safe and respectful online.
Year 7 students explored the concept of Digital Footprints, how every online interaction contributes to their personal online identity. Through discussion and real-world scenarios, students considered the long-term consequences of their digital choices, including privacy risks and the importance of thinking before sharing.
Year 8 students focused on Online Boundaries and Responsible Use. Topics included the dangers of oversharing, recognising unsafe online behaviour, and how to respond to online conflict in a respectful and constructive way. A strong emphasis was placed on understanding the impact of words in digital spaces and being an upstander rather than a bystander.
St George’s staff and the external facilitators were proud to witness the level of student engagement throughout these sessions. Both cohorts asked insightful questions, shared experiences, and demonstrated a strong willingness to reflect on their digital presence.
Beyond the classroom, it has been fantastic to see so many of our students shine in pursuits of their interests. The Associated and Catholic Colleges Swim Carnival featured a strong showing from Year 7 and 8 students, who represented St George’s superbly! Similarly, the recent Sounds at Sunset performance was a true celebration of student’s musical talents. The Year 8 Rock Band delivered a fantastic set, and many students from both year groups performed with confidence and enthusiasm.
Well done to all those Year 7 and 8 students who have received merit certificates this term. Keep up the fantastic work, and I encourage all students to try their best for the remainder of the term.
