Year 7 students have made an excellent start to term 3 with the completion of their Analysis of Argument CAT. 

They learnt about identifying persuasive techniques and analysing their impact on audiences. Students found more confidence with this type of task once they had completed a few practices. 

A particularly fun activity for the students was guessing the tone of a text and embodying tone through voice and gesture.

Students are now studying memoirs and starting to think about a lived experience that they can write about for their assessment. 

Year 10 students have been studying the text 'Night' by Elie Wiesel, a memoir detailing the authors experiences as a teenager in the Holocaust. 

As a solemn read, students demonstrated a high level of maturity in responding to research and thematic questions. They will shortly be writing essays on the text and demonstrating their skills in analysing figurative language and themes concurrently. They have been working hard and should be proud of their efforts!

Humanities News

As we head into the second half of our year, the focus in Humanities has shifted from Geography to History.

The Year 7 Students have been exploring the ancient history of our own continent, gaining an understanding of the world’s oldest continuous civilization, our First Nations people and are now moving on to the ancient civilizations of Europe in Term 4.

The Year 8 students have been learning about what life was like in Medieval Europe, learning about famous Kings and fascinating commoners, culminating in the tragedy that was the Black Death, which has helped students learn how far our understanding of germs, disease spread and medicine has come between 1347 and 2020.

The Year 9 students have been focused on the First Industrial Revolution and how world changing technology can so quickly change society both in the past and present. They are heading into Term 4 learning about World War I and World War II and how the conflicts remade our world.

Some of our Year 9 and 10 students have chosen to explore World War II in more depth, spending Term 3 focused on the war in Europe and then next term will have a focus on our own region and understand the events during World War II that occurred in and around Australia.
