Drama in Action

It has been a wonderful and busy time for our Drama students, with our Year 8 and Year 10 classes developing their skills, creativity and confidence through a range of exciting practical activities.

Year 8 Drama students have been exploring the foundations of performance, including characterisation, movement, voice and collaboration.

Through improvisation and performance activities, students have been learning how to communicate ideas effectively and bring characters and stories to life.

It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they take creative risks and support one another in the classroom.

Year 10 Drama students have been taking their performance skills to the next level. They have been developing more sophisticated approaches to character, dramatic conventions and storytelling, while working collaboratively to create engaging performances.

Their commitment and willingness to experiment have been wonderful to see, and they continue to build the skills needed to become thoughtful and confident performers.

They are now launching into the world of various performance styles including Epic theatre musical theatre, verbatim theatre and Elizabethan theatre.

During Term 3, rehearsals were well underway for our school production of Peter Pan, which opened on September 11. The cast and production team worked incredibly hard to bring this much-loved story to the stage.

Rehearsals were filled with energy, creativity and plenty of teamwork as students learnt their lines, developed their characters, practised and worked through scenes.

From Neverland to the classroom, Drama continued to provide students with opportunities to collaborate, create and perform.

We were incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and dedication our students showed throughout the production, and it was wonderful to see all their hard work come together on stage in Peter Pan.

In Robotics, students explored how sensors, push buttons, motors and servos allow robots to respond and move. They also used 3D-modelling and CNC processes to turn digital designs into physical products. Not every design worked the first time, but testing, debugging, fixing and trying again was an important part of their learning.

In Digital Technologies, Year 7 students developed coding skills through Scratch, while Year 8 students investigated computer hardware, binary numbers and networks.

Year 9 and 10 students improved their Python programming skills and explored how coding, AI and other digital technologies can be used to solve real-world problems.

Food Studies Term 3

With Mrs Smith away on a well-deserved Long Service Leave break, I’ve had the privilege of teaching the Food Studies classes, along with Ms Gerrard, who took the Year 8 students and part of the Year 10 students’ Make, Bake and Create class.

Year 7 students have been acclimatising to the kitchen including practicing the kitchen health and safety rules.

They have developed skills in the design, production and evaluation of food products and a poster as their first assessment task.  Jaihan’s excellent poster is an example of the work they have produced.

The year 9 &10 classes have been studying toward the world of work, developing skills in the Planning, research, design, production and evaluation of foods suitable for various commercial and domestic situations.

Make Bake and Create students have designed and made celebration cakes and specialty pies and are about to share work in their High Tea.

The Master Chef students have completed the certificate ‘Do Food Safely’ a Department of Health online program developing skills necessary in the food industry.  They have been completing complex recipes exploring the various properties of foods and ingredients i.e. yeast and raising agents, been practicing advanced knife skills, and recently produced choux pastry and custard rolls.

Year 8 students have been expanding the basic knowledge gained in Year 7 with Ms Gerrard, learning about healthy eating and more complex production skills such as Cinnamon Scrolls.
