Ballarat-Maryborough/Western Freeway interchange upgrade – final asphalt works: 27 August to 1 September 2023 

Dear stakeholder,

We’re writing to update you on changes to traffic conditions as we move to the final stage of works for the intersection upgrade.

From Sunday 27 August, crews will be on site completing final asphalt works.  

Night works: Sunday 27 August to Monday 28 August 

From 7pm, Sunday 27 August to 5am, Monday 28 August, Howe Street will close between Normlyttle Parade and the Western Freeway interchange to prepare the road pavement for the asphalt works. The Western Freeway eastbound exit and entry ramps will also close during this time.  

Day works: Monday 28 August – Friday 1 September 

The Western Freeway On-Ramp and Off-Ramp will be closed from 7am, Monday 28 August to 5pm, Friday 1 September, while asphalt and line marking works are completed. 

Lane closures at the roundabout will also be in place, with through traffic between Howe Street and Learmonth Road to be maintained. Delays of up to five minutes are expected. Please plan your travel to minimise delays. 

During nightworks, the following detour routes will be in place:

Northbound

Motorists travelling northbound along Howe Street can use the following detour routes:

  • Ring Road – Gillies Street Nth/Gillies Road - Kennedys Road
  • Western Freeway - Sunraysia Highway - Miners Rest Road

Southbound 

Motorists travelling southbound along Howe Street can use the following detours:

  • Kennedys Road - Gillies Road/Gillies St Nth - Ring Road
  • Kennedys Road - Midland Highway – Western Freeway

Motorists exiting Western Freeway

Continue along freeway and exit on the Midland Highway ramp – Kennedys Road – Howe Street.

During day works, the following detour routes will be in place:

Northbound

Motorists travelling northbound along Howe Street can use the following detour routes:

·                     Western Freeway - Sunraysia Highway – U-Turn – Western Freeway 

Southbound

Motorists travelling southbound along Howe Street can use the following detour:

·                     Ring Road – Gillies Street Nth/Gillies Road – Western Freeway 

Motorists exiting Western Freeway

Motorist will need to take the next exit on the Western Freeway

·                     Western Freeway - Midland Highway – Kennedys Road 

 

Please note: dates and timeframes for these works are heavily dependent on favourable weather and site conditions.
