WEEK 2 | TERM 2

STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

Week 1

3B: Joshua
3C: Lincoln

Dear Grade Three Families,

We are so happy to be back at school together for Term 2! Over the past few weeks we have settled back into our classroom routines beautifully.

📚 In reading we have been selecting ‘just right’ books from our classroom libraries and understanding the author’s purpose. Grade Three’s have also been making connections to their text - to their own experiences and life, to other texts and to the world.

✍️ Writing has been filled with recounts of our school holidays. We’ve been working on using time connectives such as ‘first, next, then’, and writing all the details in chronological order. Grade Three’s have also been focusing on past, present and future tense and being consistent with this in our writing pieces.

🔢In numeracy we have been practicing our subtraction skills using strategies such as split and jump, as well as using additive thinking. We have used tens frames, counters, unifix, number lines and MAB to support our learning of subtraction.

🔍 We have started a new unit of Inquiry, learning the difference between celebrating and commemorating events. We were lucky enough to have Captain Rhys Gould come and speak with the Grade Three’s about ANZAC Day; how it is commemorated, details of why we commemorate and also about his life being in the Australian Army.

🌊 This week we have begun our swimming program for Grades 3-6. It has been great fun and students are learning water safety skills both in the pool and in the classrooms.

A few reminders:

Homework has been sent out this week and is due back on Thursday 14th May. In their satchels, students should have brought home a reading log, a homework book with expectations and matrix sheet glued in, log in details for mathletics and reading eggs, as well as some books to read. If you have not sent in a satchel as yet, please do this as soon as possible.
