Student Achievements

Congratulations to the following students:

Rozalia Arnold (Year 11), who has been selected to participate in Geography's Big Week Out, a fieldwork program hosted in Perth, Western Australia.

Rozalia was one of only two students selected statewide to represent Tasmania in the program, following her outstanding performance in the Australian Geography Competition earlier this year.

Geography's Big Week Out is an intensive, hands-on experience designed to challenge high-performing senior students. Rozalia is spending the week gathering real-world research data, conducting coastal and urban fieldwork, and competing for a spot on Australia's International Geography Olympiad team.

We wish her an inspiring and rewarding journey and look forward to hearing all about her discoveries upon her return on Thursday 1 October!

Alice Matthews (Year 8), who recently travelled to Sydney Olympic Park to train and perform with her Hobart Dance Academy team at the Australian Dance Festival. Over three action-packed days, Alice participated in workshops led by world-class choreographers and took to the stage in a stunning nighttime group showcase alongside top dance schools from across the country. What a fantastic achievement!

Tasmania Junior Basketball League Grand Finals

Congratulations and well done to all Junior and Senior School students who competed in the Tasmania Junior Basketball League and made it through to their respective grand finals. You should all be very proud of your achievements.

Pictured here are Sophie Veitch and Zoey Brown (Year 7), whose team won their U14 Shield final and Juliette Robinson (Year 5), Grace Veitch and Zara Brown (Year 4), whose team won their U12 Championship final. Congratulations on a stellar season!

Staff Achievements

Congratulations to Secondary Teacher, Mrs Kate Lakos, for an amazing hockey season. Representing University in the Women’s Masters Division 3, Kate was recently recognised as a 2026 Southern Hockey League Award Winner and took home the 2025–26 Masters Best and Fairest title. A fantastic achievement and very well deserved!

We're also doing a happy dance for Learning Support Officer (HPE), Miss Ava Read, who wrapped up the Tasmania Football Club VFLW season as the team's leading goal scorer! Miss Read kicked an impressive 21 goals across 14 matches – an amazing achievement. Well done!

We love celebrating the achievements of our students! Share your stories and photos with us at stmarys@smc.tas.edu.au, and your child’s success will be featured in an upcoming edition of The Fountain newsletter.
