A wild lunchtime visit from Bonorong
We were delighted to welcome Ranger Bob from Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary to the College yesterday to share how we can protect our threatened native animals.
Students gathered at lunchtime to learn all about wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release, and put Ranger Bob to the test with plenty of sharp questions!
Our Junior School students got crafty making bookmarks and masks of local endangered species, including the Tasmanian devil and the Swift parrot, to help raise awareness.
There was also lots of excitement surrounding Ranger Bob's scat display! Because many Australian animals are nocturnal, studying the scats left behind in our backyards is a fantastic way to identify who visits us at night. We are very lucky to share our gardens with so much native wildlife, thanks to our local wildlife corridors.
To support their vital work, our community donated more than 100 towels and newspapers for rescuers to use when retrieving injured wildlife – a crucial contribution given Bonorong receives over 21,000 callouts each year.
How we can protect our native wildlife:
- Slow down on the roads, particularly during dawn and dusk when animals are most active.
- Keep cats indoors at night to protect local fauna from predation.
- Support rescue services like Bonorong that care for sick and injured animals.
A sincere thank you to Ranger Bob for inspiring and educating our students, and to all the families who contributed to our donation drive.
Laudato Si’ Day: Caring for Our Common Home
Last Friday, our students joined fellow Catholic school communities at St Aloysius Catholic College to celebrate Laudato Si’ Day – a wonderful event centred around faith, friendship and caring for our common home.
The day was filled with connection and hands-on learning as students came together to create, share ideas and explore practical ways to live more sustainably. From small daily changes to bigger community initiatives, our students were inspired to take meaningful action for the future of our planet.
Thank you to St Aloysius Catholic College for hosting such an enriching and inspiring day.
Footy fever hits SMC!
The College was awash with sporting colours lFriday as students and staff stepped out in their favourite team guernseys, scarves and beanies for Footy Colours Day.
Lunchtime on the College Green served up all the classic halftime staples – icy poles, saveloys and great tunes – while students put their handballing and tackling skills to the test, even taking aim at their teachers' buckets for extra House points. For our Junior School students, the day wrapped up with a fashion parade and high-fives all around.
Thank you to everyone who embraced the spirit of the day!
