As we come to the end of Term 3 at St Mary’s College, it is wonderful to reflect on what has been a busy, energetic and highly successful 10 weeks across our College community. There has certainly been no shortage of activity, with students and staff embracing a wide range of opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Our Wellbeing Week provided an important opportunity to focus on connection, belonging, resilience and looking after ourselves and one another, while Footy Colours Day brought plenty of colour, enthusiasm and House spirit to the College. We also enjoyed celebrating Father’s Day and recognising the important role that fathers, grandfathers, carers and significant male role models play in the lives of our young people.
On the sporting field, our students have continued to demonstrate outstanding commitment, teamwork and determination, with many teams achieving premiership success across a range of competitions. These results are a wonderful reflection of the hard work of our students, the dedication of our coaches and the support of our wider College community. More importantly, sport continues to provide our students with opportunities to develop leadership, resilience, discipline and a strong sense of belonging. It has been fantastic to see students representing St Mary’s with pride and demonstrating the values that make our College community so special.

Pictured above: Champions! Our 1st Grade (2–0 vs. Guilford Young College) and 2nd Grade (4–2 vs. Fahan School) soccer teams celebrate last week after sweeping their respective Southern SATIS titles. A tremendous achievement, especially for our 1st Grade squad featuring mostly Year 9 and 10 players!
And in breaking sports news, our 1st Grade soccer team, pictured below, has officially taken out the SATIS shield after a thrilling 2–0 finals victory over St Brendan-Shaw College this afternoon at GYC Hobart Oval. What a fantastic effort from the players and coaches – congratulations, Team SMC!

Our students have also achieved wonderful success beyond the classroom. In Tournament of Minds, Reconciliation Tasmania Youth Speak Out Awards, 2026 What Matters? Tasmania writing competition, group projects, students have demonstrated creativity, collaboration, curiosity and a willingness to challenge themselves. These experiences have provided opportunities for students to think differently, work with others and apply their learning in meaningful and authentic ways.
The successful Overland Track journey, pictured below, was another highlight of the term, providing senior students with an incredible opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, build resilience and develop independence while experiencing the beauty and challenges of the Tasmanian wilderness. Experiences such as these create memories that students will carry with them well beyond their school years.

Of course, among all of these achievements, it is important to recognise the excellent work happening every day in our classrooms. Across the College, students have continued to engage with their learning, develop their skills, ask questions, solve problems and strive for personal growth. The commitment of our teachers to supporting and challenging every student has been evident throughout the term, and the progress and achievements of our young people are something we can all be proud of.
As Term 3 draws to a close, we thank our students, staff, families and wider College community for another fantastic term. There is much to celebrate, and we look forward to building on these successes as we head into the final term of the year.
