House News Term 1

On behalf of the four Houses at Blackburn High School, I would like to acknowledge the incredible work that has been completed in the first term of the school year. The Houses have welcomed over 200 Year 7’s into the school community and we hope each of them have settled in well and are enjoying their time at Blackburn High School.
The Houses play a pivotal role in the transition of our students to ensure that they feel a part of the school community.
The Houses are the foundations of the school and staff are integrated into the House culture.
I would like to welcome the following staff who have joined us at Blackburn this year:
Dunlop Thomas Barlow Nathan Jackson Deborah Kielnhofer | Freeman Jake McCall Jessica Li Elly Park Huaisha Teng |
Hollows Raka Chatterjee Mitchell Ellis
| Melba Chelsea Doig Kyla Perez Belinda Tanevski Darcy Whitsed |
We also have had some internal trades that occurred over the break with changes of Positions of Responsibility. We hope they settle into the new Houses and continue to build the excellent House culture that exists at Blackburn.
Term 1 is always busy, and 2025 has been no different.
We held the Swimming Carnival, House Performing Art festival, and Mentor competitions, and now we are concluding the school term with the Athletics Carnival.
The Houses are the key drivers in these competitions, and the competitive nature always comes to the surface.
Congratulations to all Houses for their participation and engagement in the competitions.
Congratulations to all students involved and we are so proud of what our students are able to achieve in these competitions.
Congratulations to Freeman House on achieving victory in the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals and for Dunlop House in achieving a win with Beetlejuice in the House Performing Arts Festival.
Student Rugby Jumpers
Our Year 12’s have received their Rugby jumpers and badges in mentor group and have made a positive start to the 2025 year and we hope that they maintain their level of motivation and effort in their final year of VCE and VCE Vocational Major.
House Fundraiser
Freeman also recently completed our House Fundraiser which raised money for Marrup formerly the Community Spirit Foundation.
Thank you to the Freeman student leaders who assisted on the day and all students for participating, and who contributed to raising over $2000.
On behalf of all the Houses, I would like to wish all families a safe and restful Term 1 break.
