Term 1 Health and Physical Education Newsletter Report

As Term 1 ends, it's a great time to reflect on the exciting activities across all year levels in Health and Physical Education. Students have engaged in dynamic experiences designed to develop their skills, teamwork, and appreciation for physical activity.

Sport Education:

Year 7 & 8 students have enthusiastically developed their skills for interschool sports, honing their abilities in volleyball, cricket, tennis, and softball.

Year 9 students had an action-packed term with a diverse range of sport excursions, including self-defence, dance, fencing, golf, and billiards. They also enjoyed active sessions at Bounce and explored local gym facilities and indoor sports venues, encouraging them to stay active in different ways.

Middle Years: Health and Physical Education

In HPE, Year 7 and 8 students explored the benefits of physical activity, fitness components in daily life and sports, and the impact of an active lifestyle. Next term, PE will focus on Fundamental Movement Skills and Invasion Games, while Health will cover Drug Education and Mental and Social Health.

Year 9 students completed two key units. In PE, they examined training methods to improve performance, gaining hands-on fitness experience. In Health, they discussed respectful relationships, covering communication, consent, and fostering positive interactions in all aspects of life.

Senior Years

Year 10 and VCE students have had a fantastic start, showing strong engagement and commitment to their studies. Their enthusiasm is evident in class discussions, practical applications, and coursework. They participated in incursions and excursions supporting their learning. Year 10 Sports Coaching students engaged in wheelchair basketball, gaining insight into adaptive sports and inclusivity. They also took on peer coaching roles, supporting classmates and coaching junior interschool teams, demonstrating responsibility, teamwork, and mentorship.

Year 11 PE students conducted a community physical activity audit walk, assessing local parks, trails, and recreational facilities. Their observations contribute to understanding how these spaces promote active lifestyles and accessibility.

Term 1 has been filled with energy, learning, and participation. We look forward to seeing students continue to grow, challenge themselves, and embrace an active lifestyle in the coming terms!
